ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis says the city council will have a study session in a few weeks to talk in more detail about smoking at Barden Park.
The park is adjacent to the St. Cloud State campus, and it has become a popular gathering place for smokers following the university's move to go tobacco-free last August. But non-smokers and some neighbors have complained about all the cigarette butts littering the park grounds.
Last week, the Park and Recreation Board recommended the park go smoke-free.
Kleis tells KNSI News there's already a law against littering, and that should be enough to take care of the issue. He says the city may also talk with university officials about limiting smoking to a designated area of the park, and making sure there are receptacles in that area where smokers could dispose of cigarettes.
