WAITE PARK, MN (KNSI) - The Waite Park City Council has voted unanimously to annex part of St. Joseph Township.
The action came at their meeting last night. The annexation takes effect January 1st, and targets an area between the Sauk River and Stearns County Road 137. About 715 people live in the annexation area.
Several people spoke at last night's meeting, wondering how the move would affect their tax rates. The city created a new rural tax district for those properties, and the tax rate will go up the same percentage as the city's tax rate each year.
The Waite Park City Council also approved a preliminary 2013 budget last night. It's just over five-million dollars--or about one-and-a-half percent higher than this year's budget. A public hearing on the budget will be held December 3rd at Waite Park City Hall.
