ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - A juvenile court hearing for a Sauk Rapids boy charged with murder has been continued.
A defense attorney representing 17 year-old Jesse Smithers asked Stearns County District Court Judge Frank Kundrat for additional time to review the case file. The judge granted that request, and rescheduled the hearing for October 9th at 10 am.
Smithers is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault in the death of 20 year-old Colton Gleason. Gleason died one day after being punched in a St. Cloud alley. He fell and hit his head. Smithers--through his attorney--has denied any involvement in Gleason's death.
The Stearns County Attorney's Office is pursuing a motion to certify Smithers to stand trial as an adult.
