UNDATED (KNSI) Scott Staples of Carlton (pictured left) has been named the Minnesota DNR's 2014 Conservation Officer of the Year.

The award was presented to Staples during a ceremony earlier this month at Camp Ripley near Little Falls.

Staples has been a conservation officer with the DNR for seventeen years. He's worked as a use of force instructor, academy instructor and field training officer. He also is an experienced investigator and K-9 handler.

DNR Enforcement Director Ken Soring presented the award. He says it's not just given out, but rather, "earned through dedication, perseverance and hard work."
