MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A California company criticized for its work on the old Interstate 35W bridge before it collapsed is one of two finalists in a $100 million contract to build a proposed light-rail line from Minneapolis to Eden Prairie.
A Minneapolis Star Tribune report says the Metropolitan Council has narrowed its list to URS Corporation of San Francisco and AECOM of Los Angeles.
URS was a consultant to the state on the I-35W bridge before it collapsed in 2007. The company paid $52.4 million in 2010 to settle a lawsuit brought for killed and injured motorists.
Met Council Chair Sue Haigh says both finalists are qualified vendors under federal and state law.
URS says it wasn't involved in the design of the 35W bridge, only with consulting to state transportation officials.
