ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Minnesota's cold weather rule takes effect Monday.

It protects residential customers from having their utility service disconnected between October 15th and April 15th if it would affect their primary heating source.

To avoid disconnection, customers who receive a notice that their power will be shut off must contact the utility company and arrange a payment plan.

Eligible customers must commit to a monthly payment plan not to exceed ten percent of household income.
