COLD SPRING, Minn. (KNSI) A Cold Spring police officer has been killed in the line of duty.

It happened last night night, as officers were called to do a welfare check on a person.

Stearns County Chief Deputy Sheriff Bruce Bechtold says the shooting happened behind Winners Sports Bar and Grill on Main Street.

The suspect--who has been arrested--is believed to have lived above the bar.

After the shooting, streets in Cold Spring were barricaded and a helicopter was brought in to search for the suspect. They were focusing on an area near a dam on the Sauk River. The suspect was arrested around midnight. No other information on the shooting has been released, including the names of the officer and the suspect.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension brought in its mobile crime lab to process the crime scene.
