ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - St. Cloud will be down one supermarket later this year after Coborn's announced Monday they will close their Cash Wise Foods store on 33rd Avenue South in June.
The store has been a Cash Wise since Coborn's purchased the city's two Cub Foods locations in 2009.
"While the decision to close a store is difficult given the impact on employees and customers, Coborn's has a responsibility to do what is right for the long-term growth and success of the company as a whole, Coborn's President and CEO Chris Coborn said.
Coborn said the company was partnering with the Midwest Employee Assistance Program to offer assistance to the nearly 100 full-time and part-time workers impacted by the closure.
The company's other former Cub Foods store in east St. Cloud will remain open, Coborn said.
The St. Cloud-based chain also announced June plans to open a smaller Save-A-Lot store location on West Division Street at the site of the former Circuit City store. Coborn's also operates Save-A-Lot stores in Beloit, Wis., Freeport, Illl., and Debuque, Iowa.
"Opening a new Save-A-Lot store will allow us to focus on our greatest growth opportunities so we can continue to serve and support the community the same way for the past 91 years," Coborn said.
