BRAINERD, Minn. (KNSI) A close call over the weekend for a rural Brainerd woman.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office says 56 year-old Cheryl Pagel had been kayaking with a group of people on the Mississippi River near the Wausau Paper Dam Saturday afternoon when her kayak capsized.

Another member of the group--63 year-old Jeffrey Kidder of Baxter--jumped into the river and was able to pull Pagel to shore. She was treated at the scene by paramedics and then transported to Essentia Health in Brainerd for hypothermia. Kidder was not injured.

Sheriff's deputies along with Brainerd police and fire all responded to the call.
