BALTIMORE (AP) Baltimore Fire Chief James S. Clack has announced that he will resign his position to return Minnesota to be closer to family.
Clark said Friday that his last day would be July 26. He was appointed fire chief in 2008, a year after he had been named chief of the Minneapolis fire department.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said Friday that under the 52-year-old Clack's leadership, fire deaths have declined. Last year, 12 people died in fires in Baltimore, the lowest number on record.
Clack spent the first 22 years of his career in the Minneapolis Fire Department, where he started as a firefighter.
