ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - St. Cloud police were there as nearly 3,600 hundred new first-year and transfer students moved on to campus along with all of last year's returning Huskies, arrests and tickets handed out over the weekend weren't as bad as last year.
Officers issued citations to 161 people Friday, Saturday and Sunday -- that was down from the 196 who were cited in 2011. The total number of charges against those folks were down as well -- 187 counts as opposed to the 268 racked up during move-in weekend 2011.
The vast majority of those charges -- almost two thirds -- involved open container violations and underage drinking. 63 tickets in all for minors consuming alcohol -- St. Cloud police Assistant Chief Sue Stawarski said of those, all but 9 will now go through the diversion program run by the city attorney's office and SCSU.
21 total arrests over the three-day weekend -- the most serious crimes including one assault, 2 DWIs and six counts of disorderly conduct.
