ALBANY, MN (KNSI) - A May first hailstorm that swept through the Albany and Freeport areas led to a spike in building permits in those two cities.
In Albany, there have been 450 permits issued already this year. That compares to 101 all of last year. Freeport has issued close to 120 permits, topping last year's total of 58.
Most of the permits are for work on roofs and siding to homes and businesses that were pelted by the large hail stones. In Albany, the construction permits to residences total more than $5.5 million dollars, plus there's nearly a million dollars worth of permits for commercial work that have been issued.
