ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - New U.S. Census Bureau numbers released today show a more diverse population in central Minnesota than in prior years.

An estimated nine-point-eight percent of Stearns County residents in 2011 were minorities, up from nine-point-four percent in the 2010 census.

Benton County's minority population grew slightly to six-point-nine percent, while Sherburne County's remain unchanged at seven-point-four percent.

The population is also getting older. In Stearns County, the median age is 33-point-4 years--while the median age in Benton and Sherburne counties is 34-point-3 years. That's still below the national median age of 37-point-3 years.
