MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota doesn't permit same-sex couples to marry, but new figures from the Census Bureau shows it has nearly as many married same-sex couples as Iowa, where the unions are legal.

The bureau reports Tuesday that it found 1,330 married same-sex couples in Minnesota in the 2010 Census. That's nearly the 1,373 couples it counted in Iowa, which legalized gay marriage in 2009.

The bureau also revised its earlier counts of same-sex couples, which includes both married and unmarried couples, after the bureau uncovered in errors in how it gathered data about same-sex households.

The bureau's new estimate found nearly 10,300 same-sex couples in Minnesota in 2010, a big increase from the nearly 6,000 same-sex couples reported in revised figures from the 2000 census.
