STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) A small Minnesota cafe is in hot water with customers because it's charging them to help cover a minimum wage increase.

The Oasis Cafe in Stillwater is now charging patrons an additional 35 cents per meal. Owner Craig Beemer says the fee is meant to offset the 75-cent wage increase that took effect last week. He says it will cost him $10,000 more each year to pay his servers $8 an hour.

Angry customers are encouraging others to boycott the restaurant.

A manager at Oasis Cafe says he was shocked by the negative response from the community. He says the fee is meant to protect employees.

So far, Oasis Cafe is the only Minnesota restaurant to add a minimum wage fee to meal tabs.
