ELY, Minn. (AP) - Firefighters in northeastern Minnesota are making progress on containing the wildfire burning in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
Officials said Wednesday the fire that's burned nearly 145 square miles is 85 percent contained. Cooler temperatures and precipitation are expected to help with firefighting efforts.
About 450 firefighters are working the blaze. Fire restrictions remain in effect throughout the state.
No campfires are allowed except in designated campgrounds. Campfires are restricted in the entire BWCA.
