WASECA, Minn. (AP) - The sheriff in Waseca County says a burglar is probably checking obituaries to target the homes of grievers while they're away at the funeral of a loved one.
Chuck and Roxie Schwab are the burglar's latest victims. The newlyweds celebrated their wedding Saturday and buried Chuck's father on Monday. While they were at church for the funeral, the burglar took their wedding gifts. Roxie Schwab says it has been an emotional week.
Sheriff Brad Milbrath tells KMSP-TV there have been four similar crimes in Waseca County since April.
Milbrath says targeting someone who is already down is about as low as you can go. The sheriff says the thief is likely reading obituaries to find out when homes will be vacant.
