ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - The St. Cloud Police Department has multiple people in custody for questioning following a shooting that took place just west of downtown St. Cloud.
The St. Cloud Police Department says the shooting happened in the 400 block of 17th Avenue North.
Eyewitnesses reported two adult men being arrested by police near the 200 block of 15th Avenue North just after noon on Friday. KNSI has since learned from authorities that the people detained were not arrested, but brought in for questioning.
A perimeter set up to block off the area is now smaller as police were able to isolate the area of interest.
According to Chief Blair Anderson, the shooting was reported just before 11:00 a.m. One victim has received non-life threatening injuries.
KNSI's Mike Tanner originally reported roughly 15 to 20 vehicles belonging to the State Patrol, Stearns County Sheriff's Department and the St. Cloud and Waite Park Police Departments, as well as several unmarked cars, are on the scene of an incident near the area of 3rd Street South and Cooper Avenue.
According to eyewitness accounts, officers were patrolling the area with weapons out, and an officer carrying a rifle had been instructing passersby to get away from the area.
There's no released motive for the situation, and names of the victim and those in custody are unknown.
Tech High School was also reportedly in a containment, but it has since been lifted.
Assistant Chief Sue Stawarski says the St. Cloud Police Department will be issuing an official release on the shooting this afternoon.
