BRAINERD, Minn. (KNSI) The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a Brainerd man who drowned in the Gull River north of Baxter.

Sixty four year-old Peter Johnson drowned Sunday afternoon when the canoe he was in capsized. Johnson was pulled from the water, but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

A four year-old Gilbert, Arizona boy was also in the canoe.  Thadeus Strader was rescued and pulled to shore. Both Johnson and the boy were wearing life jackets.
