BLUE EARTH, Minn. (AP) — Some Minnesota parents are warning other families about a dangerous situation that could have turned out much differently for their 7-year-old son.
Noah Laehn was played with his cousin in the yard of his home near Blue Earth this week and jumped on the lid of an underground septic tank. The lid popped off and Noah tumbled into the dark 10 feet below.
Fortunately, the tank had been drained the day before so it contained just 2 feet of muck. The boy's aunt came running and heard Noah's cries from below. When she looked into the tank she saw him standing on the pump, holding onto a pipe. Faribault County sheriff's deputies were summoned, lowered a ladder into the tank and the boy climbed to safety. KMSP-TV reports Noah's parents are urging others to secure septic tank lids.
