ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) The Diocese of St. Cloud is among eight in the U.S. whose wait for new leadership might take longer.
St. Cloud diocese officials say they have not heard from the Vatican on whether Pope Benedict plans to appoint a successor before he steps down at the end of the month.
St. Cloud Bishop John Kinney sent his letter of resignation to the pope last July when he turned 75 as required by church law.
Kinney has served as bishop of the St. Cloud diocese since 1995.
Diocese spokeswoman Jane Marrin says Kinney is still physically able to continue as bishop until his replacement is named.
The St. Cloud diocese is the second largest in Minnesota after the Twin Cities diocese.
