MINNEAPOLIS, Minn (KNSI)--A 31 year-old Big Lake man was sentenced Monday in federal court for possessing two nine-millimeter pistols.

U.S. District Court Judge David Doty sentenced Bryan Burford to eight years in prison on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Burford was indicted in December 2011, and pleaded guilty in February. In his plea agreement, Burford admitted that on August 18th of last year, he possessed the two pistols. He was arrested on that date by the U.S. Marshals Service at a Brooklyn Park motel on outstanding state fugitive warrants.

Authorities found a loaded pistol in his waistband, and discovered a second gun in the motel room along with an extended magazine holding 23 rounds of ammunition.

Burford has prior crimes for possessing a controlled substance and felony theft.
