PAYNESVILLE, Minn. (KNSI) - A bicyclist was taken by helicopter to St. Cloud Hospital after being hit by a car near Paynesville.

The Stearns County Sheriff says the crash occured Friday morning just after 9:00 a.m.

55 year-old Gerald Johnson was traveling west down County Road 16 about 2 miles north of Paynesville, when he was hit by a car driven by 22 year-old Josie Magnan of Paynesville.

Magnan reportedly crossed through the intersection of 16 and 293rd Avenue without stopping at the stop sign and hit Johnson.

Johnson was treated at the scene of the crash before being airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital.

Magnan was also treated and left the scene by private party.

Sources say Johnson was participating in day 2 of the "Bicycle Around Minnesota" tour, traveling from Albany to Spicer.

No word on his condition.

Paynesville Ambulance and Paynesville Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
