FOLEY, MN (KNSI) - Benton County wants to get out the word about a switch in the county's phone system. That could mean some confused residents when they're trying to call county offices over the next few weeks, but any problems during the transition should be short-lived.
The county is changing phone service providers and while the change shouldn't cause major disruptions, there's a chance a call or two may not go through.
Phone service for the Benton County Government Center, the courts facility and the Highway Department are making the switch next Tuesday sometime between 5 and 7 p.m. The change is happening after regular business hours so the county is expecting minimal disruption.
Meanwhile, phones in the Sheriff's Office and the Benton County Jail will switch over Wednesday, August 8th again between 5 and 7 p.m. The change includes calls to the Sheriff's non-emergency Dispatch number at 968-7201. 911 emergency calls WON'T be affected, but you could run into trouble if you call the sheriff during that 2 hour period.
The County is urging callers that need to reach the Sheriff's non-emergency number still try the 968-7201 number first during the cut-over period -- the disruption is only expected to last just a few minutes. However, if the matter is urgent, officials say callers should dial 911.
