Bemidji man arrested in baby daughter's assault

BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) - A 28-year-old Bemidji man is under arrest in an alleged assault on his 3-month-old daughter.

Beltrami County sheriff's authorities say the girl remained in critical condition Monday at a Fargo, N.D., hospital.

The baby's mother initially brought the infant to a hospital emergency room with serious injuries from an apparent assault. The baby was flown from Bemidji to Fargo, where she is in the trauma unit.

Authorities say the girl's father came under suspicion early in the investigation. He was arrested Monday and taken to Beltrami County Jail, pending charges.

The Beltrami County sheriff's office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension have been investigating since the case was received Jan. 2.
