APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (KNSI) - Law enforcement officers from Dakota County will be shooting hoops for a good cause this weekend.
The department's Annual "Ballin' in D.C." basketball tournament is designed to raise donations for the families of officers killed in the line of duty.
Sargeant Booker Hodges of Dakota County says, this year, those funds will make their way to Cold Spring and the family of Officer Tom Decker, who was shot to death on November 29 of last year.
Hodges says the tournament includes four teams made up of law enforcement personnel from Dakota County. The last two tournaments have raised around $1,500 each, and 100% of the proceeds are given directly to the officers' families.
"Ballin' in D.C." kicks off this Saturday, 9 a.m. at Apple Valley High School. For more, including information on how to donate to the Officer Tom Decker Memorial Fund, visit their facebook page.
