LITTLE FALLS, Minn. (KNSI) The man charged with killing two teenagers during a Thanksgiving Day break-in at his rural Little Falls home will be in court today.
Sixty four year-old Byron Smith will ask a judge to reduce his two-million dollar bail. Smith faces two counts of second-degree murder for the shooting deaths of 18 year-old Haile Kifer and 17 year-old Nick Brady. The cousins were shot multiple times.
Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel says Smith exceeded the limit of allowable force when he killed Kifer and Brady.
Late last week, Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson's office announced it had declined a request from the Morrison County Attorney to assist them in prosecuting the case.
