ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) They were still counting ballots in the 6th District congressional race at five o'clock Wednesday morning, but the margin between the two candidates was large enough to declare Michele Bachmann the winner over Jim Graves.
The Associated Press called the race at four am, after Bachmann had stretched her lead from several hundred votes to around 3,000.
The margin of victory could settle in at less than one percent, and that could trigger a recount.
Both candidates watched the numbers come in until the wee hours of this morning, then told their supporters to go home and get some rest.
With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Bachmann had 178,959 votes to 175,207 for Graves.
Both candidates will react to the final numbers later today.
