SARTELL, MN (KNSI) - Congresswoman Michele Bachmann was in Sartell Thursday meeting with local officials to talk about future uses for the now-closed Verso paper mill.
Bachmann suggested the possibility of putting the operation of the hydro-electric dam near the mill into the hands of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The congresswoman vowed to team up with Governor Dayton and Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken to waive potential federal permitting hurdles to repurpose the mill site.
Verso officials announced last week they won't re-open the mill following a Memorial Day explosion and fire. Thursday the company also announced its second quarter financial results, showing a loss of $21 million from April through June. CEO Dave Paterson blamed much of the loss on what happened at the Sartell mill.
