SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann says she would consider drilling for oil and natural gas in the Everglades if experts tell her it can be done responsibly.
Bachmann told The Associated Press Sunday that the United States needs to access all the energy resources it can, including Florida's Everglades and the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
But she stressed that she wouldn't be OK with drilling in sensitive areas if it would hurt the environment.
Bachmann said, "If we can't responsibly access energy in the Everglades, then we shouldn't do it."
Bachmann is on a four-day swing through Florida, ending Monday with stops in Miami.
On Sunday, she attended church services in Lutz before holding a rally with hundreds of GOP activists in Sarasota.
