ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNS) The winningest women's basketball coach in St. Cloud State University history has died at the age of 74.

Gladys Ziemer coached the Huskies for 20 years beginning in 1973, and ended her career with 321 wins.

Ziemer was also instrumental in launching SCSU's softball and volleyball programs for women in the late 1960s at a time when women's opportunities to play sports at the collegiate level were just beginning.

SCSU sports information director Anne Abicht says Ziemer's approach was about, "working hard, doing your best and being good in the classroom."

When Ziemer's coaching career ended, she became the women's athletics director at St. Cloud State until it merged into a single department with men's teams.

The Daniel Funeral Home of St. Cloud is handling the funeral arrangements for Gladys Ziemer.
