ST. CLOUD (KNSI) - Stearns County has a new Parks Director - and he's already very comfortable in the role.
On Tuesday morning, the County Board of Commissioners has approved the hiring of Peter Theismann.
Theismann has been in the position on a temporary basis following the retirement of director of nearly four decades, Chuck Wocken.
Theismann is new to the role, but not to the work itself. He's been with Stearns County Parks for 15 years.
He says, after nearly a year in the interim director role, he's ready to move Stearns County's parks and trails forward with Wobegon Trail extensions and improvements, along with the addition of another swimming quarry at Quarry Park.
"We're anxiously awaiting to hear about some legacy money that could fund the acquisition of the railroad corridor," Theismann explains, with regard to a Quarry Park expansion into Waite Park. "BNSF has expressed a willingness to work with us, but as I say in jest, until the paving machine runs, it ain't done."
Theismann hails from southeastern Minnesota. As a former Boy Scout, he says the outdoors have always been a big part of his life, and his job is merely an extension of his passions.
Theismann beat out three other finalists who applied for for the director job - they included Scott Zlotnik, park and recreation director for the city of St. Cloud; Marc Mattice, parks administrator for Wright County; and Jon Henke, park director for Crosslake.
