ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (KNSI) - Stearns Electric is getting the last of its customers reconnected after thousands lost power in last Friday morning's severe thunderstorm.
District manager Dave Gruenes says at its peak, 14,000 customers were without power. That number had been reduced to just five by last night, and Gruenes says those customers will be back on line today.
When asked Gruenes was asked if the damage was enough to trigger an automatic rate increase for Stearns Electric customers, he says it's unlikely because the organization has budgeted for such severe weather events.
However, Gruenes says with soggy ground and weakened trees, they're just one storm away from the possibility of facing a significant number of outages.
