ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Students at St. Cloud State University are beginning an online vote today on whether to extend student fees approved in 2010 to help fund Huskies athletic teams.
The fee amounts to $1.74 per credit. SCSU Athletics Director Heather Weems says, "every dollar is critical to how we run our programs." She says the student fee, "helps us operate our programs in a way where we can be competitive."
Weems says students are voting on two questions. One asks whether the student fees should "remain consant." The second question asks whether the issue should come up for a vote again in 2018.
Students passed the fee in 2010 at a time when there was talk of cutting the Huskies football program.
Ironically, this vote comes as the Huskies are in the midst of their most successful season in program history. They have advanced to the NCAA Division II playoff quarterfinals at Northwest Missouri State on Saturday. That's a game you can hear on KNSI Radio, beginning with an 11:30 a.m. pre-game show.
