ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) The first phase of a $6 million Stearns County Jail renovation is finished.
Stearns County Administrator George Rindelaub says phase one involved work on the main floor. He says the number of cells for female inmates has been increased from eight to twenty, and the number of work-release cells has been reduced to twelve.
Now work begins on phase two, which is primarily on the second floor. The old work release area will be remodeled and incorporated into a larger booking area with new holding cells. That work should be finished by mid-December.
Rindelaub says the entire project will stretch into early 2015.
