SARTELL, Minn. (KNSI) Sartell Mayor Joe Perske held a campaign kickoff event Saturday afternoon in his bid to win Minnesota's Sixth District Congressional seat.

Perske met with friends and supporters at Sartell's Westside Learning and Event Center. He says it's been an emotional two days for him. He took a leave of absence from his teaching position in the Sartell-St. Stephen School District Friday to concentrate on his congressional bid.

Perske says his message to voters will be simple. He'll be doing, "what's best for the people of the Sizxth District, the state of Minnesota and the nation."

Perske says he loves teaching and being mayor of Sartell, but he says, "the representation we've had in the Sixth District is not getting it done. We need people there that are going to work for the people, find compromise and get some work done."
