ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) A $6 million reconstruction project at the Stearns County Jail will begin soon.
County Admninistrator George Rindelaub says construction bids will be opened October first, and presented to the County Board of Commissioners on October 8th for consideration.
Rindelaub says the project will create more space for female inmates, expand the booking area, and increase safety and security for staff.
The county looked at new construction versus versus remodeling, and in the end, Rindelaub says it was an easy decision due to money.
A new building would have cost around $80 million.
Rindelaub says construction will begin this fall and will take about 14 months to complete.
