ST. CLOUD (KNSI) - We may not have our first layer of snow on the ground quite yet, but St. Cloud Catholic Charities is asking for central Minnesotans to gather up some holiday cheer as they ramp up the "Share the Spirit" holiday gift program.
Catholic Charities Communications Manager Trina Dietz says the annual program matches families, nominated by social workers or other agencies that work with them all year round, with Share the Spirit volunteers.
Once registered, volunteers are asked to spend $60 on gifts and $10 for a food certificate for each member of their adopted family.
The pairings are anonymous, but Catholic Charities Communications Manager Trina Dietz tells KNSI volunteers are given a list of each family members' "wants" and "needs."
Volunteers are then asked to wrap their gifts and drop them off at the St. Cloud Armory on December 12.
Dietz says, because adoptable families are suggested by area agencies, they're typically some of the most in need in the area.
She adds, while need hasn't decreased, Catholic Charities has seen the number volunteers dwindle over the last few years, dropping from 200-210 families served in 2007 to around 175 last year.
With November right around the corner, Dietz suggests that people interested in adopting families get in touch with Catholic Charities as soon as possible.
