ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) The Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Stearns County will begin accepting child care seats as part of its recycling program.

Stearns County Environmental Specialist Ross Detert says beginning August 19th, Stearns, Benton and Sherburne County residents can drop off their used car seats at the recycling facility at 3601 Fifth Street South in Waite Park.

The program is a partnership between Stearns County, McLeod County and  Tri-County Solid Waste.

McLeod County will be doing the recycling of the seats, disassembling them and recycling individual components.

It's the first recycling program for car seats in the area. Car seats should not be used if they were involved in a vehicle crash, or are more than six years old.
