ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) When the St. Cloud City Council meets tonight, they'll consider a resolution approving Whitney Park as the location for a new community aquatics center.
Whitney Park has been previously recommended as the site by the Park and Recreation Advisory Board, the Whitney Senior Center Advisory Board, and the St. Cloud Planning Commission.
The YMCA will partner with the city of St. Cloud on the project.
A preliminary site concept calls for a 130,000 square foot community aquatics building, with the potential for up to a 30,000 square foot expansion, and 280 additional off-street parking spaces.
In 2004, St. Cloud voters approved using $10 million in local sales tax revenues for construction of a new community aquatics center.
Also at tonight's council meeting, the council will hear a request for an alcohol license from the new owners of the Le St. Germain Hotel. Jim Graves recently sold the hotel to an Aberdeen, South Dakota-based company that will operate the hotel as a Courtyard Suites by Marriot. And Mayor Dave Kleis will present a key to the city to Councilwoman Sonja Berg, in honor of her 22 years of public service on the city council.
