ST. CLOUD (KNSI) - Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous source, plans to build a permanent stage along the banks of Lake George have an extra $130,000 at the ready.
St. Cloud Rotary Club president Steve Joul tells KNSI the gift covers roughly half the cost of the $260,000 project, slated to be built behind the Lake George Municipal Building.
Joul says the rotary club first heard rumblings about the gift a couple weeks ago.
"We had heard it could happen, but we weren't sure," Joul says. "Then, about two weeks ago, we learned the donation had been made."
The Rotary Club had already completed raising their contribution for the stage, and Joul says now, they can look toward adding even more features to the project.
"The planning team that's working on this is taking a look at the numbers, and seeing if we can do some extra things for the stage," Joul explains. "Maybe some decorative things, improve the sound - little things to enhance the experience for the folks who come to Summertime! By George."
The donation will cover the Rotary’s portion of the stage, and the city of St. Cloud will use local-option sales tax dollars to pick up the rest of the tab.
The stage, which will mimic the look of the pergola currently in the park, celebrated a groundbreaking last fall.
Organizers hope to have the new stage ready for the first Summertime by George! performance this summer.
