ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) St. Cloud Deputy Fire Chief Dean Wrobbel says a sprinkler system saved an apartment building from going up in flames early this morning.

Fire and police units were dispatched to the Highlands Apartments at 2015 27th Street Southeast just after 1:30.
Wrobbel says when they got there, they found a mattress on fire in a second floor hallway. The sprinkler system had been activated, which kept the fire contained.

He says the building was evacuated due to all the smoke and water. Most of those residents were allowed back in, but some first and second floor tenants were displaced until their apartments could be cleaned up.

Wrobbel says the fire is "suspicious." Anyone with information is asked to call St. Cloud police at 251-1200, or Crime Stoppers at 255-1301.
