(KNSI) - A Waite Park man has been convicted of trying to talk a woman into letting him be her pimp.
William Heart Ballard pleaded guilty to engaging in sex trafficking of an individual.
The 36-year-old was sentenced to four years and three months in prison.
On February 1st, investigators set up an advertisement on backpage.com of a fake 23-year-old woman as part of a sting to catch men looking to buy sex in the St. Cloud area.
Ballard texted the fake woman and asked if she was working “independent“ and stated he wanted to help her out.
Police, acting as the fake woman, said that she didn’t want a pimp to take her money.
According to the criminal complaint, Ballard texted back that their relationship would be a “partnership” and that he could get her a house because she was wasting money renting hotel rooms.
Eventually, Ballard was told which hotel the fake woman was staying at and told that she was scared because a "John" was acting creepy.
Ballard was arrested at the hotel and his cell phone seized. Ballard has a prior conviction for 1st degree assault for beating a woman in Ramsey County in 2012.
The woman says Ballard sold her for sex from 2010 to 2013.
