(KNSI) - A trooper for the Minnesota State Patrol is in good spirits after being injured in a nasty crash on Tuesday.

The patrol says a car driving at a high speed on Interstate 35 Tuesday afternoon veered off the road, went through the freeway fence and struck the trooper's vehicle head-on.

Sgt. Mike Krukowski, of Oakdale, was taken to a Minneapolis hospital with injuries the patrol says are serious but not life-threatening.

The driver of the other vehicle also was seriously hurt. The crash is under investigation.

On Wednesday, the state patrol tweeted pictures of the 35-year-old trooper and his wife at his bedside at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Despite suffering a broken arm and broken bones in both feet, Krukowski was smiling and giving a thumbs up.

He says he's looking forward to recovering.
