(KNSI) - A St. Cloud Area School District elementary principal was recently honored.

Madison Elementary Principal Kate Flynn was given the Minnesota Elementary School Principals Association (MESPA) 2019 Division Leadership Award in Central Minnesota.

She told KNSI News her reaction after learning she had won.

"I was shocked and of course you’re always humbled when people recognize your work, and what makes it thrilling is your nominated by a colleague."

Kate was nominated by Madison's Assistant Principal Meredith Boucher.

The award expresses appreciation to outstanding principals who contribute to improving education, their communities, and their profession.

"You know this award is not just mine, you can only lead when people are willing to go on this journey with you. I've had the incredible privilege of working with an amazing staff, students and families."

The district states in a press release, Flynn is well deserving of this award.

Kate is one of 12 Minnesota principals across the state given the award.

The Division Leadership Award is an annual recognition made by each of 12 MESPA divisions and the Retired Principals of MESPA.
