(KNSI) - The City of St. Cloud is one of two cities in the country being given the Justice L. Anthony Sutin Civic Imagination Award.
The city was given the award for their work with the Community Outpost, or COP House. The award is given to law enforcement and community members who seek out unique ways to engage with the public and reduce crime.
"It actually started as an idea that was being used in Racine, Wisconsin... [Their police department] kind of brought that idea forward to us, to the chief and to myself and why not? We have a focus and have had a focus on collaboration and partnerships," explained Mayor Dave Kleis.
The COP House officially opened in August of 2017. Since then, it has provided another way for police officers to positively engage with the public and to strengthen those relationships.
A community celebration will be held at the Community Outpost located on 13th Street South on Thursday, July 11th at 9 a.m. A short ceremony will be followed by refreshments and tours of the Community Outpost.
For more information on the event please contact Mayor Dave Kleis at 320-255-7201 or Police Chief Blair Anderson at 320-345-4200.
