(KNSI) - The Sauk Rapids-Rice Athletics Hall of Fame will accept three new members next weekend that will include (pictured, left to right) athlete Melissa Rajkowski, former athletic director Bill Nielsen and athlete/coach Pete Robinet.
The ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28th in the commons at Sauk Rapids-Rice Highs School.
Athletics Director, 1984-2004
William "Bill" Nielsen was the Sauk Rapids-Rice Athletics and Activities Director when the school district changed their mascot from the Indians to the Storm.
Nielsen was also an important part for the school when the Rum River Conference collapsed and the school moved to the Central Lakes Conference.
Some of Nielsen's greatest accomplishments would be receiving the Principal's Outstanding Service to the School District Award five separate years and he was also named Region 8AA Athletic's Director of the Year in 2003-2004.
Among Nielsen's many accomplishments, he taught and coached in Sauk Rapids-Rice his entire career.
Melissa Rajkowski Athlete, Class of 1996
Rajkowski lettered in volleyball, basketball and track and field a total of 10 times throughout her illustrious high school career and was named the St. Cloud Times Girls Basketball Player of the Year her senior season.
At the time of her graduation, her 803 points scored in basketball sat her third on the all-time scoring list.
While attending Sauk Rapids-Rice, Rajkowski was also named All-Conference twice in volleyball and basketball and helped her volleyball team to a state berth her senior year.
In the spring sports seasons, Rajkowski participated in track and field and broke records in hurdles and the long-jump.
Rajkowski's 4x200 relay team placed fifth and fourth respectively in two state berths her junior and senior seasons.
Athlete, Class of 1979
Robinet is going into the Sauk Rapids-Rice Athletics Hall of fame as both a student and a coach.
As an athlete, Robinet lettered four times in track and field, three times in cross-county, twice in swimming and diving and once in cross country skiing.
Robinet was named All-Conference Honorable Mention four times in track and field and his school record time of 4:27.90 in the Mile Run still stands today.
Robinet was named All-Conference in Cross Country each of his last three years of high school and was named Runner of the Year his senior season.
As a coach, Robinet willed his track and field team to a True Team State Championship and three-straight Rum River Conference titles 2000-2002.
Sauk Rapid-Rice brought three teams to state under Robinet and their finish of sixth is still the best in SRR history.
During Robinet's tenure as track and field coach, SRR set 139 outdoor records, 72 indoor records and 69 male athletes were participants at the MSHSL State Championship Meet.
