(KNSI) - A state senator wants to hear your thoughts during a tax town hall meeting in St. Cloud.
Republican Jerry Relph, of St. Cloud, will host the town hall Thursday, February 15th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lake George Municipal Complex at 1101 7th Street South.
Relph says the purpose of the meeting is to garner input on potential changes to Minnesota tax law following recent federal tax reform.
He says the tax reform is expected to give middle income families of four around $2,000 in tax relief, but Minnesota laws must change to avoid complex state tax returns and state tax increases.
“With the overhaul of the federal tax code, we have a real opportunity here in Minnesota to improve our own tax code and make it easier for Minnesotans to pay their taxes,” said Relph.
“Before moving forward, though, we want to hear directly from the people."
The town hall will include Senator Roger Chamberlain (R-Lino Lakes), chairman of the Senate Taxes Committee.
St. Cloud is the last stop in a series of tax town hall meetings taking place across Minnesota including Bemidji, Plymouth, Zumbrota, New Prague, and Willmar.
The state legislative session starts on February 20th.
