(KNSI) - The Minnesota State Patrol will be out looking for those who aren't buckled up.

Stearns, Benton and Sherburne Counties, along with the State Patrol and city police will be on the lookout for drivers who aren't wearing their seatbelts.

Shannon Grabow from the Office of Traffic Safety says wearing your seatbelt and also having your child in the correct safety seat can save their life.

"One of the biggest mistakes I've seen parents or caregivers make is either not using the right seat, or not putting it in correctly. In fact, of the 18 deaths involving children seven and younger over the past five years, 61 percent of them were not buckled correctly." And it's not just kids, Grabow says. It's adults, too. "Last year, 96 [unbelted] motorists lost their lives in Minnesota traffic crashes. That's the most since 2014."

The Department of Public Safety's recent observational survey shows a 93.4 percent participation rate for seatbelt use, but Grabow says Minnesota can do better.

The Click It or Ticket Campaign runs Monday, September 16 through the 28th."
