(KNSI) - The Stearns County Highway Department is reminding homeowners that plowing or dumping snow from your driveway or sidewalk can get you into trouble.
It is considered a misdemeanor, punishable by a $700 fine and 90 days in jail.
Officials say that snow that has been dumped or plowed onto a roadway can be dangerous for drivers and snowplows. Even heavy snowplows have been damaged when they have hit frozen or compacted snow that has been shoveled or dumped on the road, so passenger cars, trucks and SUVs will be no match.
Snow dumped on the road can also create snow drifts and slick spots and create dangerous driving conditions.
